Abstract
A CO<sub>2</sub> capture system includes an electrochemical cell having a cathode including an anion-conducting ionomer, an anode, spaced apart from the cathode, by an anion exchange membrane, the anode including a support material with an electrocatalyst and a proton-conducting ionomer, and the anion exchange membrane and the anode forming a bipolar interface configured to recombine protons, generated at the anode, and (bi)carbonates, generated at the cathode to capture CO<sub>2</sub>.
