Abstract

A monitoring device includes a network interface; a memory; and a processor configured to execute a program stored in the memory to perform: acquiring activity information related to an item to be purchased by a customer and received via the network interface from a self-service point of sale (POS) terminal together with identification information of the POS terminal, the activity information including scan information related to scanning of the item by a scanner of the POS terminal and a video obtained by capturing an activity related to the item and performed by the customer at the POS terminal, detecting a position and a head orientation of the customer from the video, determining whether the customer is committing fraud based on the activity information and the position and the head orientation of the customer, and upon determining that the customer is committing fraud, causing the POS terminal to issue a notification.
