Abstract

A rechargeable battery, including an electrode assembly, a case accommodating the electrode assembly, the case including one side having an open portion, a cap plate sealing the open portion of the case, the cap plate including a through hole, and a pressure controller in the through hole of the cap plate, the pressure controller being open when the pressure inside the case is higher than or equal to a reference value and closed when the pressure inside the case is lower than the reference value.
