Abstract
A radar system uses a phase locked loop to generate an FMCW signal. The phase-locked loop has an LC oscillator having a coarse bank of capacitors, a first fine bank of capacitors, and a second fine bank of capacitors. A chirp controller uses non-uniform coarse frequency steps for the chirp operation. A randomly selected control setting for the second fine bank of capacitors is used in conjunction with the coarse bank of capacitors to generate the non-uniform coarse frequency steps. The first fine bank of capacitors is used to generate frequencies between coarse frequency steps as part of the chirp operation. Scale factor corrections are used to generate control settings for the second fine capacitor bank to reduce error.
