Abstract

A build material escapement assembly (300) for an additive manufacturing system (100) includes a base (302) defining a cavity (304) and an aperture (306) opening into the cavity (304), a diaphragm (312) extending across the aperture (306) and coupled to the base (302), and a retractable plate (316) disposed within the cavity (304) and coupled to the diaphragm (312). The build material escapement assembly (300) further includes a post (320) disposed within the cavity (304) beneath the diaphragm (312) and coupled to the retractable plate (316), the post (320) supported by the base (302) and movable with the retractable plate (316) between a retracted position and an extended position. The build material escapement assembly (300) further includes a drive assembly (328) coupled to the post (320) to move the post (320) between the retracted position and the extended position.
