Abstract
The present document discloses an energy-efficient, hardware-efficient phase-locked deep brain stimulation system configured to receive neural oscillatory signals from the brain of a subject and to provide different types of phase-locked neural stimulation to in subject's brain in response to certain cross-regional phase-based and amplitude-based neural biomarkers as extracted from the received neural oscillatory signals, for treating a range of network-based neural disorders, including movement disorders, depression, anxiety, OCD and the like. The system comprises a programmable hardware functional cell which may be configured to perform logarithmic arithmetic functions which are particularly efficient in terms of circuit real estate occupation and power consumption when the equations for extracting certain electrophysiological features of the neural oscillatory signals are transformed to provide appropriate logarithmic number system approximations (LNS).
