Abstract

A traffic monitor is configured to alert a second vehicle about a first vehicle in front of the second vehicle, by performing the steps of: broadcasting a first request for speed information as a first Bluetooth Low Energy signal, the first request including a universally unique identifier associated with BLE, and then receiving a first response from the first vehicle in response to the first request, the first response containing data that indicates that the first vehicle is moving at a first speed; comparing the first speed to a threshold speed to determine that the first speed is less than the threshold speed, and determining, based on the first speed, a first time period for alerting other vehicles about the first vehicle; and alerting the second vehicle during the first time period about the first vehicle in response to the first speed being less than the threshold speed.
