Abstract
The present invention provides a surge protection circuit for a Flyback converter, the Flyback converter having a control integrated circuit, IC, with a current-sense pin, and a switching transistor. The surge protection circuit comprises: a surge event detection component configured to detect a surge event based on a mains input voltage to the Flyback converter, and generate an output signal upon detecting the surge event; and a signal path from the surge event detection component to the current-sense pin of the control IC, wherein the output signal is adapted to emulate an overcurrent condition at the current-sense pin, thereby triggering the control IC to halt switching of the switching transistor during the surge event.
