Abstract

The current invention relates to an in-line measurement system for monitoring pouch openings in an automated packaging machine, wherein the in-line measurement system comprises one or more sensors (18) configured to measure a top opening of a pouch (3), and a processing unit configured to determine from the measurements of the one or more sensors whether the pouch is sufficiently open for filling and to control the filling process based on the measurements. The invention also relates to a method for monitoring pouch openings in an automated packaging machine, wherein the method comprises the steps of measuring a top opening of a pouch in real-time, determining whether the pouch is sufficiently open for filling, and controlling the filling process based on the measurements.
