Abstract

An automated parking system for vehicles, comprising a transport level on which a plurality of fixedly installed transport modules are arranged to move passive, vehiclecarrying pallets in a longitudinal and transverse direction. According to the invention, a vertical lifting unit is associated with at least one of the transport modules. The lifting unit comprises a framework of several static lifting columns, on which vertically movable engaging members are guided. The engaging members are configured to lift a pallet located on the transport module and to store it in one or more vertical storage positions above said module. The transport module located beneath the stored pallet thereby remains fully functional for the horizontal transport of other pallets, which achieves a high storage density while maintaining the unrestricted flexibility of the transport level.
