Abstract

Provided is an exhaust gas recirculation device and an engine with which reductions in the number of components and the size, space-saving, and a reduction in pressure loss during introduction of EGR gas can be achieved. An exhaust gas recirculation device 3 includes an exhaust pipe 26 for guiding the exhaust gas, a diesel oxidation catalyst 261 for purifying the exhaust gas, an exhaust gas recirculation pipe 27 provided between the diesel oxidation catalyst 261 and an intake system, an exhaust gas discharge pipe 29 provided between the diesel oxidation catalyst 261 and a discharge port of the exhaust gas, and a branching portion 32 for branching the exhaust gas that has passed through the diesel oxidation catalyst 261 to the exhaust gas recirculation pipe 27 and the exhaust gas discharge pipe 29, the branching portion 32 having a first branching portion 321 that is provided between the diesel oxidation catalyst 261 and the exhaust gas recirculation pipe 27, and guides the exhaust gas upward from the diesel oxidation catalyst 261, and a second branching portion 322 that is provided between the diesel oxidation catalyst 261 and the exhaust gas discharge pipe 29, and guides the exhaust gas downward from the diesel oxidation catalyst 261.
