Abstract
A communication system for a harsh environment includes a hearing protection headset with left and right earcups to attenuate external sounds. The headset has an electronic receptacle interface that connects to various peripheral communication devices, exchanging electronic signals such as audio data. A communication module in the headset switches between data exchange modes depending on the connected device, allowing audio data to be received and played through speakers in the earcups.
