Abstract

There is provided a computer-implemented method for determining a radiotherapy treatment plan to be carried out using a radiotherapy device comprising a radiotherapy beam source mounted to a gantry, the radiotherapy beam source configured to irradiate a subject with a radiotherapy beam. The method comprises receiving data indicating movement of a target region of a patient over a period of time, identifying, based on the received data, a plurality of discrete positions of the target region, each discrete position of the plurality of positions corresponding to a different time within the period of time, and determining, for each of the plurality of discrete positions, a respective primary treatment sub-plan. Each primary treatment sub-plan comprises a respective set of radiation delivery parameters defining radiotherapy delivery to the patient, wherein the radiation delivery parameters include one or more of: gantry rotation angle of delivery; gantry tilt angle of delivery; radiotherapy beam shape per rotation angle and/or tile angle of delivery; radiotherapy beam energy per rotation angle and/or tilt angle of delivery; the duration of application of the radiotherapy beam per rotation angle and/or tilt angle of delivery; and patient position per gantry rotation angle and/or tilt angle of delivery. The set of radiation delivery parameters is determined for each primary treatment sub-plan based on the respective discrete position of the target region.
