Abstract

A friction shoe includes a backing plate, plural spaced-apart inserts, and a composite body. The backing plate has a top side, an under side, a long axis, and a cross axis that is perpendicular to the long axis. A width of the backing plate along the cross axis is shorter than a length of the backing plate along the long axis. The plural spaced-apart inserts are attached to the under side of the backing plate. The backing plate and plural inserts are integrally made of a metal material. The composite body is attached to the backing plate and at least partially disposed between and around the plural inserts.
