Abstract

A cleaning device includes a housing of the cleaning device that is moved to be inserted into and extracted from a cleaning mounting portion of an image forming apparatus including an image holding body that holds an image and rotates, and is attached to and detached from the cleaning mounting portion, a cleaning member that is provided in the housing and cleans the image holding body by bringing a part of the cleaning member into contact with the image holding body, a protective member that is provided to be movable in the housing, moves to a shielded position where the part of the cleaning member is shielded from an exposed position where the part is exposed, and protects the part, and a moving mechanism that is provided to be movable in the housing and moves the protective member between the exposed position and the shielded position in conjunction with an operation of moving the housing to be inserted into and extracted from the cleaning mounting portion.
