Abstract

A cleaning system (100) for the removal of particulate matter from an object having a chamber (102) for housing the object, wherein the chamber (102) comprises a door (114) for providing access to the internal volume of the chamber (102) and an outlet (118) for passage of particulate matter therethrough. The cleaning system has at least one lock (128) operably couplable to the door (114), said at least one lock (128) being operable to selectively lock the door (114). The cleaning system (100) has a sensing means (166) operable to detect the level of airborne particulate matter resulting from cleaning of objects using the cleaning system (100). The cleaning system has a control means (164) communicatively coupled to the sensing means (166) and the at least one lock (128), wherein the control means (164) is configurable to receive the detected level of airborne particulate matter from the sensing means (166), and wherein the control means (164) is configurable to controllably operate the at least one lock (128) according to the level of airborne particulate matter detected by the sensing means (166).
