Abstract

A secondary battery includes a cell case including an electrode assembly, a vent hole in the cell case, and a safety vent coupled to the vent hole, the safety vent configured to rupture when internal pressure of the cell case is higher than a reference pressure, wherein the vent hole is in a bottom portion of the cell case, and the safety vent does not contact a bottom plate of the cell case when swelling occurs due to an increase in the internal pressure of the cell case.
