Abstract

An automated storage and retrieval system (510) comprises a plurality of containers (112) arranged in stacks, the containers for the storage of goods. The system also comprises a network (520) of tracks (610) extending above the stacks. In addition, the system comprises a plurality of robotic container handling vehicles (630) arranged to travel on the tracks, between locations above the stacks. The plurality of vehicles are arranged to cooperatively engage an uppermost container of one of the stacks to collectively lift that container for moving to another location.
