Abstract

A smart busway joint pack monitor for monitoring the internal temperature of a joint pack. A current sensor measures the current within the busbars, an external temperature sensor measures the ambient temperature, and an internal temperature sensor measures temperature within the joint pack. A monitoring processor receives the measurements and models the temperature of the joint pack based on the ambient temperature and the current measurements. The monitoring processor compares the predicted temperature to the measured internal temperature to determine a status. The monitoring processor transmits and/or visually indicates the temperature status. The monitoring processor receives subsequent measurements to both evaluate the status based on the prediction as well as retrain the model for predicting temperature.
