Abstract

There are provided an apparatus and a method for manufacturing an absorbent article in which a problem with a continuous web for forming the absorbent article not being cut at a desired position can be detected at an early stage. A manufacturing apparatus (100) for a diaper (1) includes a first drum (200), a second drum (300), a cutting device (500), and a control device (700). The first drum conveys a continuous web. The second drum receives the continuous web conveyed by the first drum and further conveys the continuous web. The cutting device is disposed to face the second drum, and cuts a predetermined portion of the continuous web to form the diaper. The control device detects, on an upstream side of a cutting location at which the continuous web is to be cut by the cutting device in a conveyance direction of the continuous web, a portion to be cut of the continuous web that the first drum or the second drum conveys.
