Abstract

A coupler for a multi-car rail vehicle has a coupler head (1) which comprises a housing (6), a removable front plate (23) covering a front opening (24) of the housing and a coupler lock (22) accommodated in the housing. The coupler lock is configured to cooperate with a coupler lock of a corresponding second coupler head so as to couple the two coupler heads together. Locking components of the coupler lock are connected to a rear side (24) of the front plate so that, upon removal of the front plate from the front opening of the housing, the locking components are removed from the housing along with the front plate. Connecting elements (28) connect the front plate to the coupler head and are configured to break when a pulling force acting on the coupler head exceeds a predetermined pulling force, thereby releasing the front plate from the coupler head.
