Abstract

A process for applying a separate sealing ring (10) to a capsule body (20) of a beverage preparation capsule comprising the steps of: (a.) providing (120) a stream of several capsule bodies (20) to a sealing ring application station (3), (b.) providing (110) a web (1) including several sealing rings (10) to a sealing ring application station (3) for placing (130) one sealing ring (10) from the web (1) to each capsule body (20) of the stream (S1) of several capsule bodies (20), (c.) detecting (140) for each capsule body (20) the presence or absence of the respective sealing ring (10, 11, 12) in the web (1, 1') by: (i.) detecting (140) the presence or absence the respective sealing ring (10, 11) in the web (1) at a position upstream of the sealing ring application station (3), and if absence of the respective sealing ring (11) is detected in the web (1), determining a faulty capsule (21) for which the respective sealing ring (11) is missing, and/or (ii.) detecting the presence or absence of the respective sealing ring (10, 12) in the web (1') at a position downstream of the sealing ring application station (3), and if presence of the respective sealing ring (12) is detected in the web (1'), determining a faulty capsule (22) to which the respective sealing ring (12) has not been applied; (d.) rejecting (150) the faulty capsule (21, 22) for which the sealing ring (11) is missing by a selection station (5).
