Abstract
A power limiter comprising an opening mechanism (110, 210), a first movable contact (101, 201) and a second contact (102, 202) forming a break contact that can be opened and closed by means of the opening mechanism (110, 210), and a bimetallic element (120, 220) adapted to trigger the opening mechanism (110, 220) at an overload current (I<sub>max1</sub>) greater than the nominal current (I<sub>n</sub>) using the thermal deformation of the bimetallic element (120, 220), and a circuit constituting a current loop in which a magnetic field is induced at short-circuit currents, in accordance with the invention is distinguishable in that the bimetallic element is part of the current loop circuit (125, 225), and this current loop (125, 225) is configured such that the short-circuit current (I<sub>max2</sub>) generates electrodynamic forces therein that cause the free end of the bimetallic element (120, 220) to move until the opening mechanism (110, 210) is triggered.
