Abstract
A host device configured to operate in a network, where the host device is associated with one or more addresses. The host device comprises a processing arrangement configured to associate the one or more addresses to a set of bits in a network layer address field and where the set of bits identifies which address is intended, where the bits in the set of bits are randomly distributed. The processing arrangement is further configured to receive a data packet having a network layer address field, and determine which address to direct the data packet based solely on the set of bits. The disclosed host device is designed to enhance network address management by utilizing a unique addressing scheme that allows for the association of multiple addresses to a single device while maintaining efficient routing and privacy.
