Abstract

An inflatable radiator system (100) is designed to reject thermal power into space. The thermal power may originate from various heat sources like payloads or solar heat engines. The radiator system can be deflated and folded to reduce volume during launch and inflated in orbit to cover a large surface for efficient heat rejection, while maintaining a low mass. The inflatable radiator system (100) includes a piping network (102) having an inflated configuration and a folded configuration, a webbing (104) that extends between sections of the piping network such that the webbing is configured to provide structural support to the piping network in the inflated configuration, an inflation system (110) configured to inflate the piping network, a repair robot (106) attached to the piping network and configured for repairing damage to the piping network, and a health monitoring system (114) configured for monitoring the piping network and detecting damage to the piping network.
