Abstract
The present invention concerns a method for cocultivation of microorganisms in particular for producing bacterial cellulose and biomass including the steps of: (a) Providing a liquid culture of at least a first microorganism which is an oxygen producing microorganism; (b) Providing a liquid culture of at least a second microorganism which is capable of producing bacterial cellulose; (c) Providing a dispersant; (d) Preparing a mixture of the liquid cultures of step (a), step (b) and of the dispersant provided in step (c); (e) coculturing the mixture obtained in step (d) to generate an engineered living material, as well as a bioreactor comprising the engineered living material. In another aspect, the present invention concerns an engineered living material comprising a first microorganism which is an oxygen producing microorganism, and a second microorganism which is capable of producing bacterial cellulose, and a dispersant. Further, the present invention concerns an engineered living material comprising a first microorganism which is an oxygen producing microorganism, a second microorganism which is capable of producing bacterial cellulose, and a dispersant.
