Abstract

To provide an abnormality detecting device and an abnormality detecting method capable of detecting a rolling abnormality of a metal strip with high accuracy as compared with before. An image processing unit 92 sets a detection area 120 of a metal strip 1 for which an abnormality is to be detected from the latest image, sets a reflecting light area 101 and an enclave reflecting light area 103 reflected on the surface of the metal strip 1 and derived from illumination light illuminating the metal strip 1, sets anew an area obtained by removing the reflecting light area 101 and the enclave reflecting light area 103 from the detection area 120 as a new detection area, and sets abnormal areas 111 and 113 on the basis of the relationship of a luminance value difference between luminance data of pixels in the new detection area and a luminance reference value to detect a rolling abnormality.
