Abstract

A method of integrating an intelligent electronic device, IED, controlling a power system equipment, such as a circuit breaker, a transformer, and/or a capacitor bank, into a control application on an application layer of a control system, the method comprising the steps of: determining a template from a plurality of function unit templates based on a configuration of the IED in a first modelling language, wherein the function unit templates represent different types of IEDs and comprise variables for controlling and/or monitoring of a respective IED type in the form of one or more services, and wherein the template encapsulates template elements representing an application layer information model of the respective IED type in a second modelling language, and filling the template based on the configuration of the IED by assigning values to the template elements based on the configuration, and creating a function unit file in a third modelling language based on the filled template, wherein the function unit file is interpretable by the control application, and comprises the services encapsulated in said third modelling language.
