Abstract

To provide a strip shape determining device and a strip shape determining method capable of enhancing the determination accuracy of the strip shape of a metal strip as compared with before. Provided are loopers 71, 72, 73, and 74 that are installed with rotating shafts thereof extending in the width direction of a metal strip 1 and lift the metal strip 1 upward, cameras 61, 62, 63, and 64 that photograph images including a lifted area of the metal strip 1 lifted toward the upper side by the loopers 71, 72, 73, and 74, a luminance data acquisition unit 81 that acquires a luminance value of B (blue) from luminance data of R (red), G (green), and B (blue) of pixels of the images photographed by the cameras 61, 62, 63, and 64, and an image processing unit 82 that obtains a reflecting light area in which the luminance value of B (blue) is equal to or larger than a certain value in the images by using only the luminance data of the luminance value of B (blue) acquired by the luminance data acquisition unit 81 and determines a defect of a strip shape on the basis of coordinates of the boundary position of the reflecting light area.
