Abstract

An image forming apparatus 100 includes a printing section 40, a UV irradiation section 30, and a UV control section 80. The printing section 40 is configured to be capable of forming an image by applying ink to a printing base material S. The UV irradiation section 30 irradiates the printing base material S with ultraviolet rays before the application of the ink to the printing base material (S). The UV control section (80) controls a period of time for which the ultraviolet rays are irradiated, on the basis of an arithmetic average roughness of a face of the printing base material (S), where the ink is applied to the face of the printing base material (S).
