Abstract

The disclosure relates to a steering column (1) for a vehicle, the steering column (1) comprising: a first column segment (10) for attachment to the vehicle; a second column segment (20) for attaching a steering device (2) thereto, wherein the second column segment (20) is movable in relation to the first column segment (10) and collapsible towards the first column segment (10) in a crash event; a wire (30) attached to the second column segment (20); and a brake device (40), wherein the brake device (40) comprises a braking mechanism (41, 47), wherein the wire (30) is spooled inside the brake device (40) and coupled to the braking mechanism (41, 47), and wherein the braking mechanism (41, 47) is configured to brake when the wire (30) is unspooled by the collapsing of the second column segment (20) in the crash event, thereby restraining the wire (30) from unspooling and restraining the collapsing of the second column segment (20).
