Abstract

A method for generating a subset Human-Machine Interface (HMI) screen (600) for an industrial control system (102) is disclosed. The method involves capturing a subset region from a superset HMI screen (106) using a cropping tool to record pixel coordinates of the selected region. One or more engineering objects (108A-N) within the subset region are detected by comparing spatial attributes of the region with predefined object definitions stored in a knowledge base (126). Metadata of the detected engineering objects (108AN) is modified by adjusting layout parameters, including position and resolution, based on screen parameters of the target HMI screens (106). A subset HMI screen (600) is then generated, incorporating the modified metadata to display detailed information about the detected engineering objects (108A-N). This automated process significantly reduces the manual effort required for subset screen creation, improving efficiency and accuracy in industrial control system interfaces.
