Abstract
The present invention discloses an apparatus An apparatus (200, 201, 202, 203, 204, 205, 206) for use by an optical receiver, comprising means for: splitting a received optical signal (ERx) onto two polarizations, thereby obtaining optical signals (ERx,x, ERx,y) on respective polarizations (x, y), obtaining electrical signals (ix, iy) indicating an intensity of the optical signals on respective polarizations (x, y); obtaining a differential signal (VRx,cm, ix,avg-iy,avg, ib) related to a difference (ix-iy) between the electrical signals (ix, iy); determining at least part of a state-of-polarization, SOP, of the received optical signal (ERx) based on the differential signal (VRx,cm, ix,avg-iy,avg, ib); obtaining a sum signal (VRx,diff) related to an addition (ix+iy) of the electrical signals (ix, iy); providing the sum signal (VRx,diff) for further processing to obtain data embedded in the received optical signal, based on an intensity of the received optical signal (ERx).
