Abstract

Techniques are disclosed for performing downloadable, automated tests for network connectivity by network devices. A network management system (NMS) sends a test for network connectivity to network devices and causes the network devices to perform the test. The network devices perform the test for network connectivity and send corresponding data generated from performance of the test to the NMS. The NMS analyzes the data from the network devices. If the NMS determines a particular network device failed the test, the NMS determines a root cause of the failure, selects an action to remediate the root cause, and performs the selected action. Such techniques described herein enable the performance of network connectivity tests by network devices on-demand, and without the network devices being pre-configured to perform such network connectivity tests.
