Abstract

A thermal energy management system (100) for a vehicle (10) includes an expansion valve (110) and a receiver (120) positioned upstream of the expansion valve. The receiver (120) includes a shell (126) configured to contain a volume of a working fluid. The shell includes an inlet (122) configured to receive the working fluid as a mixture of vapor phase working fluid and liquid phase working fluid and an outlet (124) configured to outlet the working fluid primarily in the liquid phase, even when the vehicle undergoes a change in orientation.
