Abstract
Aspects herein relate to an electrode assembly (400) and a battery (2) comprising an electrode assembly (400). The electrode assembly (400) includes an electrode (410) having two coated portions that each include an active material layer (414) formed on a substrate (412), with the coated portions being spaced apart from each other by a first distance in a length direction of the electrode (410). A pair of stress buffering layers (430) are disposed on the substrate (412) between the two coated portions and spaced apart from each other in the length direction of the electrode (410) by a second distance that is less than the first distance. An electrode tab (420) is joined to the substrate (412) between the pair of stress buffering layers (430) such that edge portions (422a) on opposite sides of the electrode tab (420) are each positioned on one of the stress buffering layers (430).
