Abstract

A method and electronic device for managing wireless communication using an abstinence announcement, including: a transceiver; at least one processor; and a memory configured to store at least one instruction which, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the electronic device to: associate with a wireless local area network, WLAN, as a non-access point, AP, station, STA (101-1, 101-2, 101-3, 101-4); receive, from an AP (102-1, 102-2) included in the WLAN, a frame including an abstinence announcement indicating that the AP (102-1, 102-2) intends to refrain from initiating a transmission opportunity, TXOP, with the non-AP STA (101-1, 101-2, 101-3, 101-4) during an abstinence period; and based on receiving the abstinence announcement, modify at least one network behavior of the non-AP STA (101-1, 101-2, 101-3, 101-4) during a portion of the abstinence period.
