Abstract

Systems and methods for non-destructively determining a same spot error and reducing the same spot error in a system of scanners for a sheet manufacturing line. Features of a sheet passing through the sheet monitoring system, such as a splice or an edge of a material deposited or attached on the sheet, are detected by first and second scanners to synchronize machine direction position calculation by the scanners. Measurements from tensioning (dancer) rolls may be used to correct for variation in machine distance between scanners. A machine distance between the first and second scanner is dynamically calculated and used to reduce the same spot error. The detection methods also allow graphical display of same spot error without damage to the sheet material.
