Abstract

Provided is a terminal device for participating in an electronic payment transaction. Preferably, the payment transaction is token-based, e. g., using a Central Bank Digital Currency - CBDC. The terminal device comprises a secure hardware unit; a display device; and a processing unit. The processing unit is operatively coupled with the secure hardware unit and the display device. The processing unit is configured to receive a certificate of a secure hardware unit of a further terminal device participating in the payment transaction, wherein the certificate is configured to authenticate the further terminal device and comprises a data field in which a name corresponding to a user of the further terminal device and an associated authorization level are stored. Upon receipt of the certificate, the processing unit is configured to obtain the name and the authorization level from the data field and display the name and the authorization level on the display device for validating the user of the further terminal device. This terminal device may act as or correspond to a payer role within the electronic payment transaction.
