Abstract
A secondary battery includes a cylindrical can having an open end and a closed end, an electrode assembly accommodated in the can, and a cap assembly. The cap assembly includes a upper cap closing the open end of the can, a lower cap spaced apart from the upper cap and facing the electrode assembly, a vent plate disposed between the upper cap and the lower cap, with a notch being formed in the vent plate, and an insulating gasket inserted between the vent plate and the can. An diameter of the lower cap is less than the diameter of the notch.
