Abstract

Present disclosure discloses a method, a surge arrester, and systems for optimizing lightning protection of overhead distribution line and equipment. The method comprises receiving a plurality of overhead distribution system parameters related to an existing overhead distribution line structure from one or more sources. Thereafter, the method comprises determining one or more output parameters based on the plurality of overhead distribution system parameters. Lastly, the method comprises determining at least one optimized lightning protection configuration for the existing overhead distribution line structure using at least one of the one or more output parameters, one or more surge arresters, a critical flashover voltage, and a shielding wire. The optimized lightning protection configuration comprises different types of system including the surge arrester for optimizing lightning protection of overhead distribution line and equipment.
