Abstract

A rotor (5) for a synchronous machine (1) comprising: a rotor core (7) having a longitudinal centre axis (A), and a plurality of salient poles (9), each comprising a solid metal pole shoe (11) mounted to the rotor core (7) and forming a radially outermost part of the respective salient pole (9), wherein each pole shoe (11) has a pole shoe body (13) provided with a longitudinal slit (17) principally extending in a direction parallel with the longitudinal centre axis (A), each pole shoe (11) comprising a metal bar (19) arranged in the slit (17), wherein each metal bar (19) comprises, or consists of, electrically conducting non-ferromagnetic material partly forming part of the radially outermost surface of the pole shoe (11), and wherein the electrically conducting non-ferromagnetic material has a lower DC resistivity than the pole shoe body (13).
