Abstract

Operating a node embodied as a gateway in a mobile 3GPP communication network The proposed embodiments refer to a node in a mobile 3GPP communication system, acting as a router or firewall. In one embodiment, the node includes one or more user equipment. It also includes one or more protocol data unit session anchors for interfacing the network node with at least one data network, an intermediate user plane function for receiving and forwarding data packets between the user equipment and the protocol data unit session anchors according to a ruleset, and a session management function for providing the ruleset to the intermediate user plane function. The ruleset is established according to a routing protocol and can be amended by routers within the data network.
