Abstract

A flow regulator device for a medical pump, the flow regulator device comprising: a housing having an inlet configured for fluid connection to an outlet of the medical pump and an outlet configured for fluid connection to an infusion line, a flow regulator body disposed in the housing between the inlet and the outlet, wherein the flow regulator body comprises an elastically compressible porous material allowing a fluid flow between the inlet and the outlet and configured for elastic compression by a fluid pressure gradient between the inlet and the outlet, wherein a fluid flow resistance of the flow regulator body increases with increasing elastic compression of the elastically compressible porous material and thus with increasing fluid pressure gradient, and wherein the fluid flow resistance of the flow regulator body decreases with decreasing elastic compression of the elastically compressible porous material and thus with decreasing fluid pressure gradient.
