Abstract

A scanning apparatus includes a scanner head or other scanner device configured to take measurements of a sheet of flat stock of material having a pattern of coating material disposed on one or more of the top surface and/or a bottom surface of the sheet. The scanning apparatus can perform one or more start-up procedures by scanning the sheet as the sheet moves past the scanner head in a machine direction in order to generate a coating profile of the pattern of the coating matter disposed on the surface(s) of the sheet. The coating profile may then be used as a set of baseline measurements for quality control purposes related to further quantities of production of the sheet.
