Abstract

Provided is a surface-treated steel sheet that can be produced without the use of hexavalent chromium and that combines excellent film corrosion resistance, painting corrosion resistance, and weldability. The surface-treated steel sheet includes a steel sheet and a chromium-containing layer on at least one surface of the steel sheet. In a 0-dimensional persistent diagram generated from a distribution image of granular protrusions present on the surface of the chromium-containing layer, the minimum birth size, maximum death size, and number of data points having a death size of 0.5 nm to 15 nm are each within a defined range. The chromium-containing layer has a C to Cr atomic ratio of 0.2 % or more and 50.0 % or less.
