The present invention provides a method for determining if air is trapped within a centrifugal separator (100). The separator comprises a stationary frame (30), a rotatable assembly (101) and a drive unit (34) for rotating the rotatable assembly (101) relative the frame (30) around an axis of rotation (X); and further a feed inlet (20) for supply of a liquid mixture to be separated, a first liquid outlet (21) for discharge of a separated liquid phase and a second liquid outlet (22) for discharge of a heavy phase having a density that is higher than said liquid phase; wherein the rotatable assembly (101) comprises a rotor casing (2) enclosing a separation space (17) in which a stack (19) of separation discs is arranged to rotate around a vertical axis (X) of rotation. The method comprises the steps of a) closing one of the first (21) and second (22) liquid outlets and restricting the flow from the other outlet; b) supplying feed to the feed inlet (20) and measuring the flow to the feed inlet (20) and the flow from the restricted outlet (21,22); c) comparing the flow as a function of time between feed inlet (20) and the restricted outlet (21,22); and d) determining that air is trapped within the centrifugal separator (100) if the measured flow as a function of time flow deviates between feed inlet (20) and the restricted outlet (21,22).

A centrifugal separator (100) is disclosed, comprising a rotatable part (110), a stationary part (120), and a seal arrangement (201, 202). The rotatable part is configured to be rotated relative to the stationary part to separate a feed mixture into at least a first fraction and a second fraction. The seal arrangement comprises a rotatable sealing member (210) comprising a first sealing surface (212), and a stationary sealing member (220) comprising a second sealing surface (222). The first sealing surface and the second sealing surface face each other to form a sealing interface between the stationary part and the rotatable part. At least one of the first and second sealing surfaces is textured with a plurality of depressions (230) for reducing a friction in the sealing interface.

The present invention provides a centrifugal separator (1) for separating at least one liquid phase from a liquid feed mixture. The separator (1) comprises a rotatable portion (10), a stationary portion (2) and a drive motor (4) arranged for rotating the rotatable portion (10) relative said stationary portion (2) around an axis of rotation (X). The rotatable portion (10) comprises a centrifuge bowl (10a) and a rotatable shaft (7) onto which said centrifuge bowl (10) is mounted. The centrifuge bowl (10a) comprises a separation space (9a), in which surface enlarging inserts (17) are arranged, an inlet (11) for supply of the liquid feed mixture, at least one liquid outlet (12, 13) for discharge of a separated liquid phase. Further, at least one bearing (5, 6) is mounted to the rotatable portion (10) to facilitate its rotation, wherein said at least one bearing (5,6) comprises a plurality of ceramic bearing elements (51).

The present invention provides a centrifugal separator (1) for separating at least one liquid phase from a liquid feed mixture. The present invention provides a system (1) for separating at least a first liquid phase from liquid feed mixture. The system (1) comprises a centrifugal separator (2), which comprises a centrifuge bowl (4) arranged to rotate around an axis of rotation (X) and in which the separation of the liquid feed mixture takes place, an inlet (90) for receiving said liquid feed mixture, and a first liquid outlet (22) for discharging the first liquid phase. The first liquid outlet (22) is hermetically sealed and free of any dedicated device for converting the kinetic energy of the first liquid phase into pressure flow of the first liquid phase. The system (1) further comprises a pressure generating device (73) for supplying the liquid feed mixture to the inlet (90) of the centrifugal separator (2), and the system (1) is configured such that the pressure generating device (73) is the major flow regulating device arranged for creating the required outlet pressure for transportation of the first liquid phase from the first liquid outlet (22).

A fuel supply system (10) is disclosed for supplying a methanol-based fuel from a fuel tank (12) to an internal combustion engine (14). The present invention further provides a separation system (90) for separating liquid feed mixture comprising yeast.
