There is disclosed a robotic vehicle which is capable of operating in an autonomous mode such that it can move and/or activate a lifting mechanism to lift or deposit a pallet (or similar platform) which may carry a load. The robotic vehicle may be in communication with one or more operator terminals. A signal from an operator terminal may cause the robotic vehicle to switch from the autonomous mode to a remote control mode, such that the robotic vehicle can be controlled through the operator terminal. |

Autonomous vehicle (100) comprising a fork lift subsystem (108) such that the autonomous vehicle is able to lift a pallet or similar platform. A lifting adaptor may be connected to the fork lift subsystem such that the autonomous vehicle can be adapted to lift one or more storage cages or frames. The autonomous vehicle may be re-purposed to lift a pallet (or other platform) by the removal of the lifting adaptor. |

Zusammenfassung
The present invention provides a load handling device comprising one or more sensors, preferably optical sensors. The sensor(s) may be used to illuminate a platform, such as a pallet. The data received from the sensor(s) may then be processed to form a point cloud. The data in the point cloud can be processed to identify the structures that form the platform such that the position and/or orientation of the platform relative to the load handling device can be determined. The load handling device may then use this platform position and/or orientation information when moving to lift the platform. |
