Industrial smart data tags conforming to structured data types serve as the basis for creating a digital twin of an industrial asset. The digital twin can comprise an automation model and a mechanical model or other type of non-automation model, both of which reference the smart tags in connection with digitally modeling the industrial asset. The structured data topology offered by the smart tags allows the digital twin to be readily interfaced with artificial intelligence (AI) systems. AI analysis can leverage the smart tags to discover new relationships between key performance indicators and other variables of the asset and encode these relationships in the smart tags themselves. These enhanced smart tags can also be leveraged to perform Al-based validation the digital twin. Additional contextualization provided by the enhanced smart tags can simplify AI analysis and assist in quickly converging on desired analytic results.

A non-transitory, computer-readable medium may include instructions executable by at least one processor in a computing device to cause the processor to perform operations that include transmitting, to a first power source, a command to provide power to a coil of a switching device with a fixed current profile. The operations also include receiving one or more voltage measurements associated with the coil during a period of time, determining whether the voltage measurements associated with the coil indicate that one or more movable contacts of the switching device are at least partially welded to one or more contacts of an electric circuit, and transmitting an additional command to a second power source to disconnect a current to the coil in response to determining that the voltage measurements indicate that the movable contacts of the switching device are at least partially welded to the contacts of the electric circuit.

A high availability industrial automation controller used in a high availability industrial automation system is disclosed. The controller includes instructions executable by a processor to receive information about a lost redundancy in the industrial automation system, change a first redundancy state and a second redundancy state associated with a first task and a second task, respectively, upon receiving the information, perform the first task and the second task. The performing the first/second task can include identifying the first/second redundancy state has been changed, modifying operation of the first/second task in response to the first/second redundancy state being changed, and resetting the first/second redundancy state. Also disclosed is a method of operating the industrial automation controller.

One configuration provides a system for controlling network traffic flow for time-sensitive networking in industrial systems. The system includes an electronic processor configured to receive, from an industrial controller of an industrial system, queuing data associated with a first queue of the industrial controller. The electronic processor is also configured to determine, based on the queuing data, a distribution of network traffic within the industrial system. The electronic processor is also configured to generate a network traffic model for display, the network traffic model including the distribution of network traffic within the industrial system.

A method and system for motion control of movers in an independent cart system is disclosed. In one implementation, the independent cart system includes a plurality of track segments, each section having a respective controller. One of the controllers receives a motion command for a plurality of carts, respectively. The controller generates a force command for each of the plurality of carts and transmits the respective commands to the track segments commutating the plurality of carts.

The analytics engine can determine and provide recommendations or instructions in connection with the industrial automation system(s) to enhance system performance based on the determined correlations. The analytics engine also can determine when there is a deviation or potential of deviation from desired system performance by an industrial asset or employee, and provide a notification, a recommendation, or an instruction to rectify or avoid the deviation.
