Abstract
A patch cord comprising a multi-mode fiber (MMF) having an MMF core diameter, and a photonic crystal fiber (PCF) having a hollow core having a mode field diameter (MFD) that is smaller than the MMF core diameter. The MMF and the PCF are spliced together, and the MMF and the PCF have been actively aligned to maximize the overlap integral of a fundamental mode of the MMF while minimizing the power in other modes.
